Dec 03, 2015 Restoring Text Shortcuts On The Same / Another Mac Restoring text shortcuts on the same or another Mac is quite easy. All you need to do is open up the same window (System Preferences - Keyboard - Text”), and drag and drop the “Text Substitutions.plist” file in any one of the two columns, as shown below.
Using Text-to-Speech. Text-to-Speech is only supported with Mac OSX 10.10 or above. To use these shortcuts, you must enable Text-to-Speech first. Press Command Tor select the Toolsmenu and choose Start Text-to-Speech. Toggle Text-to-Speech - Command T; Pause or resume reading - Space bar (while in a book) Read the current sentence - Command S.
This works well except that when highlighting a portion of text in the document and I wish to stop (pause) the Text to Speech it only starts at the beginning of the highlighted text and not restarting from the point of being paused. If I use the start/stop keyboard shortcut in Text to Speech system preferences the situation is worse.
that function, that I would describe as 'Start Speaking Text' best works for me if i make the keyboard shortcut extremely obscure. i found that simpler combos are often used in apps and cause conflicts. i use COMMAND OPTION+CTRL+SHIFTS this seems to work well. Also, i have noticed that if you are selecting text from a web page in Safari and you highlight any graphics along with the text you want to have 'read' to you, it will sometimes not function. I think it sees the graphic and thus ignores selection. But i am not sure really. I just try to avoid making a selection that has anything but text in it. Beavis2084
